Lamar Jackson will undergo surgery on his right thumb and be placed on injured reserve after the Baltimore Ravens lost 36–10 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 1st. Coach Jesse Minter announced the plan after a game that also saw backup quarterback Tyler Huntley leave with an injury.

According to the Ravens’ injury report, Jackson hurt his throwing hand on Baltimore’s first offensive play. His hand struck Bills pass rusher Gregory Rousseau as he delivered a pass. Jackson’s return from a three-game absence with an ankle injury lasted only that single play.

What is confirmed

Minter said the thumb injury could potentially end Jackson’s season. That possibility is not a confirmed season-ending diagnosis, and the team’s report did not establish a return date. The immediate plan is surgery and injured reserve.

Jackson rejoined his teammates on the sideline in the third quarter with a cast on his right hand. Huntley had initially replaced him, but a toe injury in the second quarter forced another quarterback change. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano then entered for his NFL debut.

A different outlook for Baltimore

The defeat dropped the Ravens to 4–4 and extended their losing streak to three games. Baltimore had entered the afternoon hoping Jackson’s return would help reverse consecutive losses to AFC North opponents. Instead, the team finished with fresh uncertainty at both of its top quarterback spots.

PowerPage’s Friday report covered Jackson’s expected return after full practices. Sunday’s surgery announcement is a separate development that changes the outlook for the coming weeks. The ankle absence and new thumb injury should not be treated as the same setback.

The next quarterback decision depends in part on Huntley’s condition. His toe injury was reported, but a recovery timetable was not established in the team’s initial postgame update. Baltimore must now address that uncertainty while trying to halt a skid that has erased its winning record.
