Broncos Rally Past Chiefs 28–24 to Take AFC West Lead

The Denver Broncos erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit and stopped Kansas City at the goal line to win 28–24 on Sunday, November 1st, 2026, at Empower Field at Mile High. Denver improved to 6–2 and moved ahead of the 5–2 Chiefs into first place in the AFC West.
Jonah Coleman supplied the decisive offensive burst. With Denver trailing 24–21, the running back turned a short Bo Nix pass into a 51-yard gain to the Kansas City 5. Coleman then ran up the middle for the touchdown, and Wil Lutz’s extra point put the Broncos ahead with 1:56 remaining.
A comeback followed by one last stand
Kansas City still had a chance to answer. Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce for 32 yards on the final possession, and the Chiefs eventually reached Denver’s 1-yard line. But an incomplete pass and a run stopped for no gain left Kansas City facing fourth down. A false start moved the ball back before Malcolm Roach sacked Mahomes on the final play.
Denver’s rally began with Nix’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Nate Adkins. Nix then connected with Jaylen Waddle on the two-point conversion, cutting the deficit to 24–21. The Broncos needed another stop, and Alex Singleton’s sack helped push Kansas City into a 54-yard field-goal attempt. Harrison Butker missed wide right with 2:31 left, setting up Coleman’s winning sequence.
The numbers behind the finish
The NFL’s official game center credited Nix with 222 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions on 20 completions in 32 attempts. Coleman finished with 41 rushing yards and a touchdown, plus four catches for 63 yards. Denver outscored Kansas City 15–0 in the fourth quarter.
Mahomes completed 30 of 41 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Emmett Johnson caught five passes for 128 yards and a score, but Kansas City’s productive afternoon ended without points on either of its final two possessions.
The Broncos’ official game blog confirmed the division lead after the final whistle. Denver had trailed 17–13 at halftime and 24–13 after three quarters before changing the outcome with two late touchdown drives and the defensive stand.
