Viola Davis Takes Corporate Power to the Edge in Paramount+ Thriller Ascent

Viola Davis is returning to serialized television with power on both sides of the camera.

Paramount+ has officially greenlit Ascent, a character-driven thriller starring Davis as Catriona Vail, an elite corporate fixer who manages crises for billion-dollar clients. Davis will also executive-produce the series with Julius Tennon through their JuVee Productions banner.

Catriona has built her career by entering rooms where reputations, companies and fortunes are on the verge of collapse. The story becomes personal when her estranged daughter is placed in danger, forcing Catriona to redirect the same skills she uses for corporate damage control toward protecting her own family.

That premise gives Davis the kind of complicated lead role that has defined some of her strongest work. Catriona is not being introduced as a conventional hero. She is a powerful operator whose professional ruthlessness may become either her greatest weapon or her deepest liability.

Ascent was created by John Logan, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Gladiator, Skyfall and the upcoming Michael Jackson film Michael. Logan will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Michael Aguilar joins Davis and Tennon on the producing team.

The project also extends Davis’ influence as an owner and producer. JuVee Productions has consistently developed stories built around characters and perspectives that traditional Hollywood systems have often pushed aside. On Ascent, Davis is helping shape the production while playing its central character.

Production is scheduled to begin on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles in 2027. Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date, but the company says the series will receive a global release exclusively on the streaming service.
