Early Reactions Call Spider-Man: Brand New Day a More Grounded and Emotional Marvel Story

The first reactions to Spider-Man: Brand New Day are arriving ahead of the movie’s nationwide theatrical opening Friday, July 31.
Early viewers have praised Tom Holland’s fourth standalone Spider-Man film for moving away from a heavily multiverse-driven storyline and returning Peter Parker to a more personal, street-level conflict.
Several reactions highlighted the movie’s emotional weight, character development and action sequences. The new installment follows Peter after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the people closest to him no longer remembering his identity.
The cast includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Sadie Sink in a mysterious new role. Destin Daniel Cretton directs.
Advance reactions should always be treated differently from full critical reviews, but the initial response suggests Marvel and Sony may have delivered a more mature chapter built around Peter’s loneliness, changing abilities and struggle to rebuild his life.
The film enters theaters with substantial box-office expectations following the enormous worldwide success of No Way Home.
