Ravens Bring Austin Reed Back as Quarterback Injuries Force a Short-Week Reset

Austin Reed is back with the Baltimore Ravens. The team announced Monday, November 2, that it signed the quarterback to its practice squad and waived fullback Lucas Scott, adding an option before Thursday’s game against Jacksonville.
The move follows injuries to both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley in Sunday’s 36–10 loss at Buffalo. Reed already knows the offense from his time with Baltimore during training camp and the preseason, a useful starting point with little preparation time before the next game.
Reed played in all three of Baltimore’s preseason games. He completed six of 12 passes for 59 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, and added a 14-yard rushing touchdown. The Ravens’ announcement also notes his earlier experience with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle in Chicago.
The practice-squad addition does not, by itself, establish Thursday’s starting lineup. Baltimore’s report describes Reed as a likely backup to Joe Fagnano; that assessment should be distinguished from an announced game-day quarterback decision.
Jackson’s latest setback came on his first offensive snap Sunday, when his throwing hand struck Gregory Rousseau. Coach Jesse Minter subsequently said Jackson would need thumb surgery and go on injured reserve. A season-ending absence remained a possibility, rather than a confirmed outcome, in the team’s postgame report.
Huntley replaced Jackson but left with a toe injury in the second quarter. That brought Fagnano into his first regular-season NFL appearance. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards, threw an interception, and lost a fumble as Baltimore struggled to recover.
For now, Reed’s return gives Baltimore another quarterback familiar with the system. The next important updates concern Huntley’s availability and the team’s Thursday personnel decisions, with little time before Jacksonville arrives. Follow PowerPage Sports for more on Baltimore’s next steps.
