No Man’s Sky Cosmos Update Adds Space Stations, Orbital Bases and a New System Map
No Man’s Sky Cosmos gives players a new reason to spend time between planets. Hello Games released the update on PS5 September 9, expanding space exploration with station ownership, orbital construction and a new map of each star system. The developer identifies Cosmos as Update 7.0 and says the download is free for existing PlayStation players.
In the PlayStation announcement, Hello Games founder Sean Murray describes a universe with more destinations and activities in space itself. A system scan reveals points of interest, including outposts and large wrecks that players can salvage. Those wrecks carry a risk: removing too much material can destabilize them, turning a scavenging trip into an escape.
The official Cosmos overview explains how station directorship works. Players prove themselves to local authorities, then customize a station’s interior and exterior. Directors can also establish alliances, giving groups a shared identity and a way to coordinate exploration. Alliance rankings track communities as they grow their reach across the game’s universe.
Building extends beyond stations. Players can establish free-floating orbital bases, while the new system map marks planets and other destinations for navigation. Hello Games also introduces the Our Journey Continues expedition, whose milestones revisit updates and moments from the game’s ten-year history. The price distinction matters for newcomers. Cosmos is a free update to the paid game. As checked September 10, the U.S. PlayStation page lists No Man’s Sky at $23.99, reduced from $59.99, with the offer ending September 24 at 6:59 a.m. UTC. Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus; the store describes online play and VR as optional.
