Apple TV’s “Last Seen” Turns a Distress Call Into a Family Mystery
Apple TV’s “Last Seen” opens with a call that should be impossible. Ian Ridley, a former police detective now working as a dispatcher, hears a teenage girl in distress and becomes convinced the voice belongs to Maggie, his daughter who disappeared 11 years earlier.
That certainty drives the six-episode Australian thriller, which premieres Wednesday, September 9 with two episodes. Apple will release one new episode each Wednesday through October 7, giving the mystery a weekly rhythm instead of dropping the entire investigation at once.
Patrick Brammall plays Ian as a man whose family life has been defined by the unanswered disappearance. The premise turns a familiar missing-person case inside out: the possible return does not offer instant relief. It threatens to pull him deeper into a search that already cost him his career and fractured the people around him.
The series is adapted from Ryan David Jahn’s award-winning novel The Dispatcher. Kris Mrksa developed the television version, while Christian Schwochow directs and executive produces. “Last Seen” was set and filmed in Victoria, Australia, giving its suburban roads, dispatch rooms and wide landscapes a specific sense of place.
The cast also includes Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Jessica Wren, Zahra Newman and newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes. The trailer keeps the central question tight: whether Ian is hearing evidence, hope or a voice capable of exploiting both.
For viewers, the two-episode premiere should provide enough room to establish the family history before the investigation expands.
