“The Paper” is heading back to deadline. Peacock releases all ten episodes of Season 2 on Wednesday, September 9, returning to the Toledo Truth Teller after its underfunded staff finally earned a little recognition—and discovered that success can create its own newsroom problems.
The new season begins after the team sweeps the Ohio Journalism Awards. Editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, played by Domhnall Gleeson, responds by searching for a bigger journalistic crusade. Peacock’s official synopsis says his pursuit of a local private club puts the paper at risk, giving the comedy a story with consequences beyond office embarrassment.
Ned and reporter Mare Pritti, played by Chelsea Frei, also have to address the attraction they spent the first season circling. The official trailer turns their kiss into an HR complication while the rest of the staff attempts increasingly ambitious assignments. One sequence sends reporters into a tornado watch with very little evidence that their car—or their judgment—is ready for storm chasing.
The ensemble returns with Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda Grand, Melvin Gregg as Detrick Moore, Gbemisola Ikumelo as Adelola Olofin, Ramona Young as Nicole Lee and Oscar Nuñez as Oscar Martinez. Tim Key, Alex Edelman, Eric Rahill and Duane Shepard Sr. are also back, preserving the mix of confidence, confusion and accidental honesty that gives the mockumentary its rhythm.
Creators Greg Daniels and Michael Koman continue the same documentary universe as “The Office,” but the premise is more than a change of workplace. A struggling local newspaper brings modern questions about money, trust, community and original reporting into the comedy. Ned’s optimism only works when the people around him can turn limited resources into journalism readers actually need.
Season 2 also has more room to build that idea than the first run’s shorter rollout. A ten-episode order can let field assignments, relationships and the paper’s institutional trouble overlap instead of resolving as separate sketches. The trailer’s gun-range, medical-room and storm-chasing images suggest the staff will spend as much time outside its improvised newsroom as inside it.
That makes the ten-episode binge a useful counterpoint to the platform’s broader September schedule. Peacock is also carrying the Emmy telecast, NFL football and several returning unscripted franchises, but “The Paper” gives the service a scripted workplace comedy with a clear identity and a full-season drop.
PowerPage’s streaming coverage will follow the season after release. For now, the setup is clean: the Truth Teller won its award, its staff believes it is improving and the next story may be the one that tests whether the newsroom can survive its own ambition.
