Jamie Foxx Enters a Courthouse Hostage Crisis in Amazon MGM’s Deadlocked

Jamie Foxx has found his next action vehicle—and this one traps him inside a courthouse where an already historic trial erupts into a deadly siege.

Foxx will lead Deadlocked, an Amazon MGM Studios thriller that has secured worldwide distribution and is expected to stream globally on Prime Video. The Oscar winner will play a grieving former Marine who is performing jury duty when the defendant’s daughter takes control of the courthouse in an attempt to free her father.

Caught inside the building, Foxx’s character must fall back on his military training as the trial turns into a hostage crisis.

The premise places Foxx at the center of a contained action story driven by survival, strategy and emotional pressure. It also gives the actor an opportunity to balance the physical demands of the film with the grief carried by his character.

Nikhil Bhat will direct. Bhat attracted international attention with the Hindi-language action film Kill, which turned the confined environment of a passenger train into an intense, close-quarters thriller. His involvement suggests that Deadlocked could emphasize practical confrontations and escalating tension over oversized spectacle.

Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack wrote the screenplay from their original idea. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger are producing for Range, with Dave Caplan producing for C2. Foxx will also produce through Foxxhole Productions. Corinne Foxx is among the project’s executive producers.

The film continues Foxx’s recent return to action-oriented projects following Netflix’s Back in Action. He is also attached to Fight for ’84, a dramatic film about the rebuilding of the United States Olympic boxing team following the 1980 plane crash that killed 14 boxers and eight staff members.

Amazon MGM has not announced the remaining cast, production schedule or premiere date for Deadlocked. That means the project remains early in development, but the combination of Foxx, a pressure-cooker premise and the director behind Kill already gives the film a strong identity.
