Capitals’ Rally Falls One Goal Short in 6–5 Loss to Dallas

The Capitals came within one goal of completing a comeback Tuesday, November 3, but Dallas held on for a 6–5 victory at Capital One Arena. Washington fell to 8–6–0 after its second consecutive loss, despite recovering from an early four-goal deficit.
According to the NHL’s game recap, Jason Robertson scored three straight goals in a span of 5 minutes, 20 seconds during the second period. His natural hat trick put the Stars ahead 4–0 and ended Logan Thompson’s night after four goals on 11 shots. Charlie Lindgren took over in relief.
Jordan Kyrou began Washington’s response with a power-play goal. Boone Jenner and Jakob Chychrun also scored in the second period, leaving the Capitals down 5–3 at the intermission. Roope Hintz restored Dallas’ three-goal cushion early in the third.
Justin Sourdif brought Washington closer at 12:55, and Ryan Leonard made it 6–5 at 18:58 with an extra attacker on the ice. The Capitals could not find another equalizer. Kyrou finished with a goal and two assists, while Leonard and Chychrun each contributed a goal and an assist.
The result illustrated the difference between generating a response and recovering the points. Washington produced enough offense to make the closing minutes competitive, but each additional Dallas goal increased the work required. The final margin reflects the comeback; the sequence explains why it remained incomplete.
That is also the change from Tuesday’s pregame story. The question then was whether Washington could break through against Dallas’ defense and Jake Oettinger. Five goals answered part of that question, while the six allowed at the other end prevented the offensive output from becoming a victory.
The Capitals’ team account emphasized their continued effort after falling behind. There is a useful distinction between that response and the outcome: staying competitive gave Washington a chance, but the standings still record a loss.
