The NBA’s first weekly awards of the new season belong to two guards whose scoring helped produce winning starts. Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey were named Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week on Monday for games played October 20th–25th.

The NBA’s official announcement pairs Jerome’s recognition with a 3–0 Memphis start and Maxey’s with Philadelphia’s 3–1 record. The awards capture the opening stretch of the 2026–27 regular season, giving both teams an early individual honor alongside their results.

Jerome leads the West

Jerome averaged 34.7 points and six assists while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. The league also noted that he became the second player in Memphis history to score at least 100 points over a season’s first three games.

Maxey takes the East

Maxey averaged 28.8 points, four rebounds and 4.8 assists. His selection places Philadelphia’s guard at the center of the first Eastern Conference award announcement of the season.

What the first award tells us

Opening-week recognition is a useful snapshot, not a finished argument about the season. Three or four games can show which players have established an immediate rhythm, but they cannot yet show how a team will respond to changing opponents, injuries and the demands of a longer schedule.

The interesting follow-up is consistency. A scoring burst becomes more valuable when an offense can return to dependable options after an opponent adjusts. That is a different challenge from producing one exceptional night, and it gives fans something more specific to watch than whether an early average rises or falls.

For Memphis and Philadelphia, the next stretch offers a chance to build on the opening results. For the league’s audience, Monday’s honors identify two names worth following as the early sample grows. PowerPage Sports will continue tracking the NBA alongside Baltimore and regional sports coverage.
