Morgan State Faces a Short Turnaround Before South Carolina State Visits Thursday

Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge prepares for a snap against Howard, with autumn trees behind the field.
Morgan State lines up against Howard at Hughes Stadium on October 24th.

Morgan State has a short week to turn a difficult finish into a better response. The Bears host South Carolina State at Hughes Stadium on Thursday, October 29th, with a 7 p.m. kickoff and an ESPNU broadcast, putting another conference test in front of Baltimore’s HBCU program.

Morgan’s official game-day listing shows the Bears at 5–3 overall and 0–1 in the MEAC. South Carolina State arrives at 6–2 and 1–0. For local fans, the Thursday date is the immediate planning detail: this week’s home game comes ahead of the usual Saturday football schedule.

Closing out a lead becomes the lesson

The Bears’ official Howard recap documents the disappointment behind that quick reset. Morgan led 20–6 in the fourth quarter Saturday but lost 26–20 in overtime. Howard’s Ben Chandler IV ended the game with an 87-yard interception return.

Cameron Edge threw touchdown passes to Joseph Towler and Alex Simmons before the lead disappeared. Morgan committed 14 penalties for 110 yards. Head coach Damon Wilson identified execution and self-inflicted mistakes as problems after the loss.

That creates a clear question for Thursday: can Morgan keep its own possessions from becoming harder than they need to be? The answer will come through cleaner sequences, not simply through a stronger start. A lead only becomes a result when the team manages the remaining possessions.

A conference opportunity at home

South Carolina State is the defending two-time MEAC champion. Morgan’s game-day page lists live video, statistics, tickets and radio coverage through WEAA 88.9 FM/HSRN for the matchup.

A short turnaround leaves less distance between disappointment and the next chance to compete. For the Bears, playing at home offers that chance immediately. For Baltimore supporters, Thursday brings a nationally televised opportunity to see whether Morgan can turn the lessons of its conference opener into a more complete finish.
