Netflix’s “Road to Hillman” Tour Brings “A Different World” to Howard University

Netflix is taking the new “A Different World” beyond the screen before its September 24 premiere. The newly announced “Road to Hillman” tour will visit several real HBCUs, including Howard University in Washington, D.C., Hampton University and Norfolk State University in Virginia, and Spelman and Morehouse colleges in Atlanta.

The regional dates give Power1047 listeners a direct connection to the rollout. Hampton and Norfolk State will co-host a September 18 event centered on Hillman’s fictional roots, its legacy and the next generation of students. Howard follows September 20 with Debbie Allen and cast member Kennedi Reece in conversation with the university’s fine arts department.

Atlanta closes the route with a September 21 premiere at Spelman and a September 22 presentation connected to Morehouse College’s Human Rights Film Festival. Netflix’s schedule also begins September 4 at Texas Southern University before continuing to the University of Chicago on September 10.

The choice of campuses gives the campaign more substance than a standard promotional screening. The original “A Different World” helped place HBCU life inside American living rooms. Bringing the sequel to actual campuses creates room for students, faculty and alumni to measure the television version of Hillman against institutions with their own histories, traditions and creative communities.

PowerPage’s recent “A Different World” guide introduced Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, and the September 24 Netflix premiere. Today’s tour announcement is a separate service update: it identifies where the series will meet HBCU audiences before streaming begins, including two stops within Power1047’s Baltimore–Washington–Virginia orbit.

Event access and admission details may vary by campus, so interested students and alumni should follow the participating schools and Netflix’s official schedule for instructions. The official series trailer is included below; the campus tour begins today and reaches Howard on September 20.
