Open Mike Eagle Kenny Segal DOOMED is the rare breakup album that treats emotional collapse as both serious testimony and absurdist world-building. Released August 14 through Backwoodz Studioz, the 15-track project gives the Los Angeles collaborators their first complete album together after nearly two decades of friendship and occasional work. Eagle writes from the wreckage of a five-year relationship while Segal builds a different sonic environment for every turn in the story.

The album’s official Bandcamp notes describe DOOMED as a half-whimsical breakup record, and the track list supports that framing. “Streets of Rage: Public Arguments Edition,” “Don’t Go Look (Battleworld Focus Prayer)” and “Watching a Movie Called Freedom By Myself” make room for humor without softening the isolation underneath. The concepts are specific enough to feel lived-in, but strange enough to keep the writing from becoming a standard diary entry.

Kenny Segal produced and mixed the entire record, creating a unified backdrop for Eagle’s conversational rap style. Additional instrumentation includes saxophone, flute, horns, drums, guitar, bass and Rhodes, details that give the album more movement than a single-loop aesthetic. Guests include Gothic Tropic, Hemlock Ernst and billy woods, each entering the project without pulling it away from the central two-person chemistry.

That chemistry is the news here. Eagle and Segal have crossed paths for years, but DOOMED asks them to sustain one emotional and musical argument from beginning to end. The result places close-listening rap beside relationship writing, black comedy and science-fiction imagery. It is underground Hip-Hop that values structure as much as individual bars, with each beat functioning like a new room in the same damaged house.
