Nocturne Brings Zazie Beetz and Liev Schreiber Into a Pennsylvania Crime Thriller

Nocturne arrives on Apple TV Friday, October 30th, with Zazie Beetz and Liev Schreiber leading a crime drama that puts family loyalty inside a missing-person investigation. Stephen Graham plays the serial killer at the center of the threat, while Beetz also contributes behind the camera as an executive producer.
The 10-episode series opens with two installments, followed by weekly Friday episodes through December 25th. Apple’s first-look announcement identifies the source material as Lars Kepler’s Lazarus and The Sandman; its later trailer announcement places The Sandman at the center of the adaptation.
The investigation and the family stakes
Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former soldier who becomes a homicide detective and leaves Philadelphia for a small western Pennsylvania town. His hoped-for quieter life is disrupted by Jurek Walter, Graham’s character, whose threat reaches Jonah’s family as well as the community.
Beetz plays FBI agent Saga Bauer, Jonah’s surrogate daughter. The search for Jurek’s last missing victim brings her into the confrontation with him. That relationship gives the premise a personal conflict alongside the procedural question of finding the victim.
Who is building the series
Rowan Joffé created the television adaptation, and John Hlavin developed it; Apple’s September announcement credits both as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. Tim Van Patten directs the first two episodes and executive produces, establishing the opening stretch of the series.
Beetz’s executive-producing credit runs through her Sleepy Poppy company, while Schreiber is also an executive producer. A+E Studios produces the drama in association with Range Studios. The supporting cast includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr.
The official trailer above introduces the characters and the show’s atmosphere. This is a guide to the announced adaptation and creative team, rather than a review of the full season. Viewers can start with the two-episode premiere and follow the remaining eight installments through the weekly schedule on Apple TV.
