Nipsey Hussle’s “Higher” Lowrider Heads to Auction

A custom 1959 Chevrolet Impala connected to one of Nipsey Hussle’s most enduring music-video appearances is headed to Mecum’s Monterey auction. The baby-blue Sport Coupe is listed as Lot F120 and is scheduled to cross the block Friday, August 14, placing a carefully documented piece of modern hip-hop imagery in the collector-car market.
Mecum gives the car a presale estimate of $175,000 to $225,000. That range is guidance rather than a guaranteed result, and the final value will depend on bidding. The auction listing identifies a 283-cubic-inch V8, a Turbo Hydramatic 350 automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and an aluminum radiator.
The Impala’s visual details are central to its appeal. Its custom hydraulic suspension is supported by a trunk-mounted battery setup, while Dayton wire wheels, whitewall tires, classic baby-blue paint and a tri-tone blue interior connect the build to the long tradition of Southern California lowrider craftsmanship.
The car appeared in DJ Khaled’s 2019 video for “Higher,” featuring Nipsey Hussle and John Legend. The footage was shot shortly before Hussle was killed in March 2019, and the completed video became closely associated with the public remembrance of him that followed.
“Higher” later won Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2020 Grammy Awards. That history gives the Impala significance beyond its mechanical specifications: collectors are evaluating both a customized automobile and an object tied to one of the final widely seen visual performances of Hussle’s career.
The auction has not happened yet, so the estimate should not be reported as a sale price. Friday’s bidding will provide the meaningful next update and show how buyers weigh the car’s condition, lowrider workmanship and music-history provenance without reducing Hussle’s legacy to a single collectible.
