Mystics Open a Four-Game Western Road Trip Against the Portland Fire

The Mystics’ four-game Western road trip begins Sunday night in Portland, where Washington faces the Fire at 7 p.m. ET at Moda Center. The trip arrives immediately after Minnesota ended the Mystics’ eight-game home winning streak, giving Washington little time to sit with a 94-84 loss before another playoff-positioning test.

The official WNBA game page confirms Sunday’s matchup and a season series that has already delivered two very different results. Washington survived Portland 124-123 in four overtimes on June 28, the kind of marathon that tests every layer of a rotation. The Fire answered on July 16 with a 75-56 win, holding the Mystics to their lowest output of the two meetings.

Washington’s official schedule identifies this as the club’s longest remaining trip. After Portland, the Mystics play consecutive games in Phoenix on August 25 and 27, then finish at Los Angeles on August 28. The Phoenix-to-Los Angeles back-to-back will be Washington’s only one of the season, making Sunday’s opener important for both the standings and Washington’s rotation management.

The Mystics still have balance to build around. Washington must keep the ball out of the paint without surrendering clean perimeter looks.

A strong opening night would do more than settle the season series. It would let the Mystics carry momentum into the most compressed part of the trip and reestablish the defensive standard that powered their home streak. Sunday’s game is the first of four chances in six days to show that Washington’s depth can travel.
