The Washington Mystics’ eight-game home winning streak ended Friday night when the Minnesota Lynx turned a close season-series decider into a 94-84 victory at CareFirst Arena. Washington kept every starter in double figures, but Minnesota’s shot-making and cleaner possession game held up across all four quarters.
The official WNBA game page shows Olivia Miles leading the Lynx with 24 points and seven assists. Natasha Howard added 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting, along with seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Kayla McBride scored 18, while Courtney Williams contributed 13 points, eight assists and six rebounds before leaving in the closing seconds with an apparent lower-body injury.
Washington’s balance was real. Kiki Iriafen scored 19 points, Shakira Austin had 17, Michaela Onyenwere added 14, Sonia Citron scored 11 and Georgia Amoore finished with 10. The problem was that balance did not produce enough stops. Minnesota shot efficiently and committed only six turnovers, denying the Mystics many of the transition chances that can energize their home floor.
The second quarter changed the shape of the game. Washington led 26-25 after the first, but Minnesota won the next period 24-16 and carried a seven-point advantage into halftime. The Mystics never fully erased it. They won extra possessions on the offensive glass, yet the Lynx repeatedly answered before CareFirst Arena could turn a short run into a complete comeback.
The result gave Minnesota the season series, two games to one, and improved the league-leading Lynx to 31-7. Washington fell to 21-15 and lost ground in a tightly packed playoff race. One defeat does not erase an eight-game home run, but it identifies the standard Washington must meet against a contender that can create quality shots without giving the ball away.
PowerPage’s pregame report framed Friday as both a rubber match and a playoff measuring stick. The final score completes that story. Washington proved it could spread the scoring responsibility; Minnesota proved it could control the most important possessions and end the Mystics’ strongest home stretch of the season.
