The Michael Jackson biopic Michael is moving from theaters to subscription streaming.
STARZ has confirmed that the film will debut Monday, August 10, exclusively through the STARZ app and the network’s streaming and on-demand platforms.
Jaafar Jackson portrays his uncle Michael Jackson in the biographical drama, which traces the performer’s rise from childhood stardom to global pop icon status. The cast also includes Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson and Juliano Krue Valdi as the young Michael.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael runs two hours and seven minutes and carries a PG-13 rating. STARZ describes the film as an intimate look at Jackson’s evolution from child prodigy into one of the most recognizable entertainers in music history.
The August streaming date gives viewers a new way to see one of 2026’s most discussed music films. It also places the movie in a familiar second window for Lionsgate releases, which regularly move to STARZ following their theatrical and premium digital runs.
For music audiences, the central draw is Jaafar Jackson’s performance. Casting a member of the Jackson family brought an unusual layer of physical familiarity and personal connection to the project, while the supporting cast helps frame the family, business and creative pressures surrounding Michael’s ascent.
The streaming release should also extend the conversation around the biopic itself. Music biographies often introduce an artist’s catalog to younger audiences while encouraging longtime fans to revisit the performances, videos and albums that shaped the original era.
Beginning August 10, that conversation will move into living rooms as Michael becomes available to STARZ subscribers.
How to Watch
Michael begins streaming Monday, August 10, through the STARZ app and STARZ on-demand platforms. Subscription access is required.
