Ms. Lauryn Hill Brings Diaspora Calling! to the U.K. With a Fugees Celebration

Ms. Lauryn Hill is taking Diaspora Calling! across the Atlantic for the first time, turning the festival’s U.K. debut into both a celebration of African-diaspora music and a 30th-anniversary salute to the Fugees’ The Score.

The event is scheduled for Friday, August 7, at the National Bowl in Milton Keynes. Hill will be joined by Wyclef Jean, Erykah Badu, Fireboy DML, Giggs, YG Marley and Zion Marley, with Dave Chappelle serving as host. The official festival site confirms the date, venue and lineup.

In a new Associated Press interview, Hill described Diaspora Calling! as a platform built to connect music, art and communities across the global African diaspora. The concept began in Brooklyn in 2016 and now reaches the United Kingdom at its 10-year mark.

The Fugees’ role gives the gathering extra weight. Hill and Wyclef are expected to perform The Score in full, revisiting an album that brought Caribbean influence, soul sampling and sharp lyricism into one of Hip-Hop’s defining crossover moments. Released in 1996, the project’s 30th anniversary offers more than nostalgia; it creates a bridge between the group’s generation and the younger African and Caribbean artists on the bill.

Hill also used the AP conversation to reflect on the late D’Angelo, describing his music as timeless and worthy of continued care. That remembrance fits the larger purpose she has assigned to Diaspora Calling!: preserving foundational work while giving living culture room to evolve.

For Power1047 listeners, the most compelling part is the festival’s range. The lineup moves from the Fugees and Badu to contemporary Afrobeats, British rap and the Marley family’s reggae lineage without presenting those sounds as unrelated lanes. Diaspora Calling! treats them as connected chapters in a wider Black musical story.
