“Chad Powers” Season 2 Returns With the Catfish Secret Under Pressure

“Chad Powers” returns today with a second season that makes the disguise harder to protect and the football stakes larger. Hulu lists the complete season as available September 3, giving viewers all six episodes at once instead of stretching the crisis across a weekly rollout.

Glen Powell again plays Russ Holliday, the disgraced quarterback hiding inside the prosthetic-heavy identity of Chad Powers. On the field, Chad has become a star. Away from it, the character’s strange behavior is attracting attention from the people closest to the South Georgia Catfish program.

Hulu’s official synopsis identifies Coach Hudson and Gerry as especially suspicious. Ricky already knows the truth, which changes her position in the story: Russ and Danny need her help if Chad is going to survive the regular season and lead the Catfish toward the college football playoff, but she is also the person least eager to protect the deception.

That conflict gives Season 2 a cleaner dramatic pressure point than simply asking whether the disguise will fail. The secret is already distributed among people with different loyalties. Every victory can make Chad more valuable to the team and more difficult to remove, even as increased attention makes exposure more likely.

Perry Mattfeld returns as Ricky, with Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny and Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson. Powell co-created the half-hour comedy with Michael Waldron, and Eli Manning is among the executive producers. The Manning connection remains part of the series’ football DNA, but the comedy depends on Powell playing Russ and Chad as two versions of one increasingly cornered person.

The official Season 2 key art keeps the alter ego front and center. Powell appears in uniform with Chad’s familiar hair and makeup, presenting the visual joke without hiding how much effort Russ has invested in maintaining it. That investment is the season’s trap: walking away would mean abandoning the comeback he built under another name.

For a different kind of ensemble return, PowerPage’s “A Different World” guide looks ahead to a new Hillman class. “Chad Powers” is more frantic and sports-driven, but both shows rely on a group dynamic in which identity is shaped by the people who see through the public version first.
