Capitals Visit Nashville as Predators Honor Barry Trotz

The Washington Capitals visit the Nashville Predators on Thursday, October 29th, 2026, for a game with a connection that reaches beyond the standings. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern at Bridgestone Arena. Before the game, Nashville plans to honor Barry Trotz, the coach who led Washington to its first Stanley Cup in 2018.
Trotz is set to become the sixth member of the Predators’ Golden Hall and its only 2026 inductee. The announcement, carried by Rutherford Source, identifies the October 29th Capitals game as the setting for the ceremony. It brings together two franchises that hold central places in his career.
Nashville hired Trotz as its first head coach in August 1997, before the expansion team began playing. He went on to coach 1,196 regular-season games for the Predators, winning 557 and taking the club to the playoffs seven times. Those numbers help explain why the franchise’s tribute encompasses more than one successful season.
His Washington chapter delivered a different milestone: the 2018 championship. After leaving the Capitals, Trotz coached the New York Islanders. As The Hockey News’ report notes, his Islanders teams reached consecutive conference finals in 2020 and 2021, extending his postseason record with another organization.
Trotz later returned to Nashville in a management role. He succeeded David Poile as general manager in July 2023 and served through 2026. The Golden Hall recognition therefore reflects both his work establishing the Predators behind the bench and his later return to their hockey operations.
For Washington, Thursday also presents a short turnaround. The Capitals beat Philadelphia 5–2 on Wednesday before traveling to Nashville, according to Inside The Rink’s game preview. The trip puts the team straight back into competition while giving Capitals supporters a reason to revisit a defining part of their club’s history.
The ceremony and the game are separate events: Nashville’s tribute recognizes Trotz’s career, while the result on the ice remains to be decided. Fans following from the DMV should plan around the 8 p.m. Eastern start and check their local viewing guide before puck drop. Follow more regional coverage on PowerPage Sports.
