AJ Dybantsa’s first NBA game gave Washington a promising individual performance and a disappointing team result. The rookie scored 19 points Wednesday, October 28th, 2026, as the Wizards lost 121–111 to the Cavaliers in Cleveland. Washington’s next opportunity comes at home against Charlotte on Friday, October 30th.

Dybantsa had missed Washington’s first four games with a left ankle sprain. His debut followed the clearance covered in PowerPage’s previous report, moving the story from his availability to his first regular-season work. The box score records 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting, two rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes, 57 seconds.

His opening stretch offered several ways to contribute. In Yahoo Sports’ account of the debut, Dybantsa drew a foul on his first touch and made both free throws. His first field goal came on an alley-oop from Trae Young, and he finished the opening quarter with nine points without missing a shot from the field.

Washington’s early offense put the Cavaliers under pressure. The Wizards led 42–34 after one quarter and 69–59 at halftime, according to the Bullets Forever recap. Their advantage reached 13 early in the third quarter after another Dybantsa alley-oop, but Cleveland erased it before the period ended.

The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 92. Cleveland then outscored Washington 29–19 in the final period, leaving the Wizards with a loss despite their productive start. Alex Sarr and Anthony Davis each contributed 18 points for Washington, while Kyshawn George finished with 11 assists.

For Wizards fans, the two developments deserve separate attention: Dybantsa completed his first game with efficient scoring, while the team could not sustain the lead it built. One debut cannot settle how either trend develops. Friday’s home matchup with Charlotte offers the next chance to see the rookie in Washington’s rotation and the Wizards respond to a difficult finish.
