BCPS magnet applications for the 2027–28 school year open at noon Tuesday, September 15, giving Baltimore County families a chance to explore specialized programs before next fall. The application deadline is 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 20. This is the next school year’s selection process, so families should plan ahead even as the current semester gets underway.
The district’s September 2 announcement points families to the Magnet EXPO on Saturday, September 19, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at CCBC Essex’s Wellness & Athletic Center, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. It offers an early opportunity to learn about programs before school showcases run from September 24 through October 15.
Application information meetings are scheduled for September 17 at Kenwood High School and September 22 at Milford Mill Academy, both beginning at 6 p.m. The district also lists multilingual application assistance sessions. Families who need help can use the magnet programs website to identify the appropriate session and its location.
Before choosing schools, BCPS’s application instructions ask families to consider a student’s interests, talents and abilities alongside each program’s entry grades, location and transportation availability. A program’s subject matter is only one part of that decision; the daily trip and eligibility requirements deserve attention before a selection is submitted.
Families may select up to three programs on one application per child. BCPS directs applicants to check every section carefully and retain a copy of the application and submission confirmation email. Program choices can be changed online only before the deadline. High school applicants must also complete an assessment for each program they select.
For a useful first step this week, compare the official program descriptions with your child’s interests, then save the EXPO and application dates. Keep current-year logistics separate: PowerPage’s Baltimore County back-to-school guide covers the school opening and transportation tools, while this window concerns magnet placement for 2027–28.
