AVAM Begins Partial Closure With Lower Admission Rates Through October 9
AVAM visitors have a change to plan around beginning Wednesday, September 9. The American Visionary Art Museum says its Main Building’s second floor will be closed through October 9 for exhibition installation. The museum is applying lower admission rates during that period, giving Baltimore residents a clear choice about when to visit and what to budget.
The temporary prices listed on AVAM’s visitor page are $15 for adults and $11 for people 65 and older. Admission is $8 for active military members, veterans, students and children ages seven and up; children six and under remain free. These are the special rates for the installation period, so check the visit page when making plans for a later date.
The closure is limited to the Main Building’s second floor. AVAM’s posted hours remain Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 800 Key Highway near Federal Hill Park. The museum recommends timed tickets, with admission also available at the door. Visiting the Sideshow store alone does not require a museum ticket.
The change comes ahead of Flaunt: When Appearance Speaks, scheduled to open October 10 and run through September 5, 2027. AVAM describes its 31st major thematic exhibition as a presentation of more than 60 works spanning portraiture, photography, fiber, sculpture and wearable forms. Everyday materials, including buttons and bark, figure into the artists’ work.
That exhibition will ask visitors to consider appearance as a place where invention, feeling and self-expression are already visible. For now, the useful distinction is between the installation window and opening day. Anyone making a trip specifically for Flaunt should plan for October 10 or later, while September visitors should expect the announced floor restriction.
