West Baltimore is preparing for another major round of neighborhood investment.
The West North Avenue Development Authority announced that an additional $20 million will be directed toward redevelopment efforts along the corridor. The new allocation follows $30 million already placed into the community, bringing the combined investment to $50 million.
WNADA leaders announced the funding during an event at the Maryland Institute College of Art marking the authority’s fifth anniversary.
The organization’s work covers several neighborhoods surrounding West North Avenue. Its priorities include supporting minority-owned businesses, acquiring and redeveloping vacant properties, creating commercial and retail opportunities and increasing local homeownership.
WNADA Executive Director Chad Williams told WMAR that residents may begin seeing the physical results of the investment within approximately 18 to 24 months. The authority expects to distribute its next funding round in spring 2027, with applications opening this fall.
The investment carries particular importance in communities that have experienced decades of disinvestment, property vacancy and declining retail access. Reviving the corridor will require more than individual construction projects—it will depend on whether development creates lasting opportunities for current residents and locally owned businesses.
One proposed housing component could make WNADA-supported homes available for less than approximately $250,000 to $275,000. Retail and fresh-food access are also part of the community’s broader redevelopment conversation.
The next phase will provide a clearer picture of which projects receive support and how the investment is distributed across neighborhoods.
