The Womack Sisters Debut Album Carries a Family Legacy Forward

The Womack Sisters Debut Album arrives Friday, August 14, introducing BG, Zeimani and Kucha Womack with a self-titled nine-song set released through Daptone Records. The project brings a new chapter to a family history deeply connected to gospel and soul music.

The sisters are granddaughters of Sam Cooke and daughters of Cecil Womack and Linda Cooke Womack. That lineage gives the record an unmistakable historical frame, but the trio is presenting the album as its own statement rather than a museum piece built only around famous relatives.

Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth produced the album. The music draws on gospel harmonies, girl-group pop and classic R&B, while the sisters’ voices supply the center of gravity. The arrangement choices emphasize shared singing and emotional clarity instead of crowding the songs with modern studio effects.

The track list includes “Chauffeur,” “You Went Away Too Long” and “If I Let You.” Across nine tracks, the record gives the group enough space to introduce its sound without turning a debut into an oversized collection. It also positions the sisters within Daptone’s long-running commitment to analog-minded soul recordings.

For listeners, the key question is not whether the trio can reproduce the music of earlier generations. It is how effectively the sisters use inherited musical language to describe their own lives. The debut’s strongest opportunity is the contrast between familiar soul textures and three distinct contemporary voices.

Release details and the full track list are confirmed by The Womack Sisters’ official Bandcamp page; the San Francisco Chronicle reported on the group’s family history, production and August performances.
