Netflix’s “The Final Problem” Locks 13 Suspects Inside a 1959 Island Mystery

Netflix’s “The Final Problem” begins with the oldest mystery setup in the book: a group of strangers, a place nobody can leave and a death that refuses to stay simple. The newly released trailer introduces a four-episode limited series arriving September 25, built around 13 people trapped by a violent storm at an isolated hotel off the coast of Mallorca.

The story is set in spring 1959. When English tourist Elisa Mander is found dead, the first explanation is suicide. That conclusion quickly collapses, leaving every guest and employee inside the hotel under suspicion while the storm blocks outside help.

José Coronado plays Basil, a retired actor who once portrayed Sherlock Holmes on the big screen. That professional connection to detection becomes an uncomfortable real assignment: he is pulled into identifying a killer before the group’s isolation produces another victim. The official trailer leans into glances, closed doors and shifting alliances rather than revealing the solution.

María Valverde, Martiño Rivas and Maribel Verdú lead the ensemble alongside Coronado. Gonzalo de Castro, Cristina Kovani, José Condessa and Pepón Nieto are also part of the suspect pool. Félix Viscarret directs from scripts by Alberto Macías, Carlos Molinero and Marisol Farré.

The limited series adapts Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel of the same name. Its four-part structure gives Netflix room to treat the hotel like a pressure chamber: each new piece of information can change the audience’s reading of the guests without stretching the investigation across a full season.
