FX's “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga” shifts the franchise from the crack era into the rise of '90s West Coast rap. The official trailer brings Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons back into view as they try to reinvent themselves in Los Angeles, where music offers a new route forward without erasing the street politics and damage that shaped the original series.

Gail Bean's Wanda sees rap as a force capable of changing American culture. She begins assembling a group around that belief, drawing in her cousins Lamar and James Kinsey, played by Asante Blackk and Peyton Alex Smith, and pursuing the volatile local rapper Artillery, played by Simmie “Buddy” Sims III. Her ambition gives the continuation a clear engine rather than simply revisiting familiar characters.

Leon, played again by Isaiah John, enters the new story from a different direction. He has vowed to leave the streets and pursue atonement through a free legal clinic.
