TEDCO is expanding its support for Baltimore entrepreneurs through newly selected university partners and entrepreneurs-in-residence. In an October 5th announcement, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation named the University of Baltimore Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Loyola University as Baltimore City grantees in its Urban Business Innovation Initiative program.

The Baltimore assignments pair Marcus Bullock with the University of Baltimore center and Jon Weinstein with Loyola University Maryland. TEDCO says participating organizations will help coordinate outreach, startup engagement and reporting, linking the entrepreneurs-in-residence with the wider business-support network.

The initiative also includes Prince George’s County. Its selected organizations are the county’s Economic Development Corporation and Bowie State University Entrepreneurship Innovation Center. Together, the selections describe a program serving two distinct urban areas, with Baltimore’s university partners providing a local point of connection.

What the program is designed to do

TEDCO’s Urban Business Innovation Initiative page describes technical and business assistance for small and early-stage companies. Its listed support areas include bringing emerging technology to market, finding funding opportunities, building management teams, developing prototypes and connecting founders with local service providers.

The scope reaches beyond one kind of startup. The program page identifies areas such as educational software, cybersecurity, transportation and mobility, environmental solutions, public health and safety, and urban farming. Entrepreneurs with ideas in those fields can review the program’s official resources to assess whether its support matches their stage of development.

Where interested founders can start

The October announcement names partner organizations and entrepreneurs-in-residence; it does not announce a general cash award for every business or supply an application deadline for individual founders. Readers should check directly with the listed organizations about access, eligibility and available support before making plans around funding.

TEDCO’s Venture Development page provides a starting point for its broader resources, including mentors, pitch experience and idea-stage support. For Baltimore founders, the useful next step is identifying the appropriate university contact and asking what assistance is currently available. PowerPage’s Power Beat coverage follows local opportunities alongside schools, neighborhoods, transportation and community developments.
