Snoop Dogg Will Host the 2026 VMAs as the Show Returns to Los Angeles
Snoop Dogg will host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards when the ceremony returns to Los Angeles on September 27. CBS and MTV announced the appointment September 10, putting a veteran West Coast rapper at the center of the show’s first West Coast edition since 2017.
For Baltimore viewers, the two-hour broadcast starts at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS, with an MTV simulcast and streaming through Paramount+ Premium in the United States. Snoop is also listed as an executive producer, giving him a role behind the ceremony as well as in front of the audience.
His history with the VMAs reaches back to a main-stage debut in 1994. The network credits him with 13 nominations and three wins, alongside appearances with Dr. Dre and Eminem in 1999 and Eminem again in 2022. In the hosting announcement, Snoop connected the new assignment to MTV’s early support of his career and Hip-Hop’s visibility.
The current nominations give rap listeners several reasons to follow the results. Best Hip-Hop includes Cardi B featuring Kehlani for “Safe,” Don Toliver for “E85,” Drake for “Janice STFU,” Megan Thee Stallion for “LOVER GIRL,” Travis Scott for “DUMBO” and Tyler, The Creator for “SUGAR ON MY TONGUE.” These are nominees, with the winners still to be announced.
Fans can vote in 13 categories at the official MTV voting site through September 25 at 6 p.m. Eastern. Best New Artist remains open into the show. MTV also lists a daily double-vote Power Hour from 1–2 p.m. Eastern through September 24, a useful detail for viewers who want to support their picks before the ceremony.
The hosting release says performers, presenters and special guests will be announced separately. Snoop’s appointment therefore establishes the night’s host without confirming a new musical performance from him.
