Ravens’ Defense Powers a 13-3 Preseason Win Over the Vikings

The Ravens’ 13-3 preseason win over Minnesota did not require an explosive offense. Five sacks, a forced fumble, a late interception and another composed performance from rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano carried Baltimore past the Vikings and to a 2-0 preseason record.

The Ravens’ official game recap identifies the turning point as Fagnano’s eight-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester with fewer than six minutes left in the third quarter. A coverage breakdown left Wester open for the only touchdown of the afternoon. Fagnano finished 15-for-20 for 123 yards without a turnover, extending a steady two-game audition in which he has completed 37 of 48 passes for 327 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Baltimore’s defense supplied the sharper identity. Mike Green, Ethan Burke, Rayshaun Benny and Keondre Jackson each recorded a full sack, while David Olajiga and Chandler Rivers shared another. Burke also forced a fourth-quarter fumble that Amani Oruwariye recovered. Safety Silas Walters closed the door by jumping a route for an interception as Minnesota tried to make the finish competitive.

The performance was not clean everywhere. Baltimore averaged only 2.6 yards per rush, converted inconsistently on third down and was called for nine accepted penalties. Gerad Lichtenhan drew three holding flags. Those details will matter during the final week of the preseason, especially for players competing for reserve offensive-line roles.

Still, allowing 10 total points through two preseason games gives the Ravens a clear foundation. The defense has translated practice pressure into game disruption, and Fagnano has kept the offense organized when opportunities appear. Baltimore now returns home to face Washington at 6 p.m. next Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.
