J. Cole is putting Hip-Hop journalism back into readers’ hands with a 144-page collector’s magazine. Kehlani is days away from opening a North American tour that reaches Columbia, Maryland, later this month. Producer Dahi has offered a live preview of a project designed to move beyond genre lines, while Loe Shimmy has brought a newly released performance to the COLORS studio.
Back in Baltimore, Motor House is preparing to open an exhibition centered on the visual-art teachers who create in the classroom and beyond it. Then Power1047 closes the night with ten 1990s and 2000s R&B records built for a slower pace.
Hip-Hop Lead: J. Cole Puts The Fall-Off Magazine in Print
J. Cole is extending The Fall-Off era beyond music with a physical publication devoted to Hip-Hop’s past, present and future.
The Fall-Off Magazine is a 144-page limited-edition editorial project commissioned by Cole. The publication brings together original reporting, photography, illustration and design from more than 60 contributors. Its interview lineup includes Cole, Lauryn Hill, GloRilla, J.I.D and Larry June, alongside retrospective features examining important debut albums in rap history.
The bigger idea is what makes the project matter. In an era when music conversation is often reduced to quick posts and disposable reactions, Cole is investing in long-form Hip-Hop journalism as something readers can hold, revisit and keep. The magazine treats the culture as a living archive instead of a temporary content cycle.

R&B Tour Watch: Kehlani’s North American Run Starts Thursday
Kehlani is almost back on the road.
The North American leg of The Kehlani World Tour opens Thursday, August 6, at The Armory in Minneapolis. The tour then moves through major markets across the country before reaching Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, on Thursday, August 27.
For the Maryland date, the venue lists Durand Bernarr, TheARTI$t, WASEEL and Dixson as support. Gates open at 5:15 p.m., with the show scheduled for 6:30 p.m. One dollar from each ticket will support The Kehlani Fund, a PLUS1-sponsored initiative focused on professional opportunities and music programs for underserved communities.
The Columbia stop gives Baltimore-area R&B listeners a regional date within easy reach—and a full supporting lineup built around contemporary soul, vocal performance and emerging talent.

Producer Spotlight: Dahi Opens the Door to Black Boy (Alternative)
Dahi is stepping from behind the boards and presenting a larger creative world of his own.
At a preview concert in Inglewood over the weekend, the Grammy-winning producer brought his forthcoming Black Boy (Alternative) project to the stage with Childish Gambino, Vince Staples, Ravyn Lenae, Channel Tres, French Anthony and Jesse Boykins III among the guests.
The set mixed major moments from Dahi’s production catalog with unreleased material. Vince Staples, Channel Tres and French Anthony helped introduce “Who Are You,” Childish Gambino performed “Running,” and Ravyn Lenae joined Jesse Boykins III for “Drowning.” Dahi also revisited records he co-produced for Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.
On Monday, Dahi followed the live preview with “Square Up,” a new Fousheé collaboration that pushes distorted vocals and electronic-rock texture into the project’s wider Hip-Hop foundation.
Black Boy (Alternative) is scheduled for August 28 through ALTER Music.

Mic Check: Loe Shimmy Brings “Pretty Brown” to COLORS
Loe Shimmy has added another visual chapter to his current run with “Pretty Brown — A COLORS SHOW,” released Monday.
The Pompano Beach rapper’s performance strips the presentation down to voice, melody and presence. That controlled setting fits Shimmy’s style: raw Florida rap delivered through a blurred line between rapping and singing, with the emotional weight left close to the surface.
“Pretty Brown” comes from Pretty Girlz Run The World, the project Shimmy released in late July. The COLORS version gives the record a separate single release and a cleaner introduction for listeners discovering his music beyond the Florida scene.
Shimmy is also moving through the region this month, with shows listed in Philadelphia, Silver Spring, Richmond and Norfolk during the next stretch of his tour schedule.

Power Beat: Baltimore Art Teachers Step Into the Gallery
Motor House is opening a new exhibition Wednesday night that places Baltimore’s visual-art educators in the spotlight as working artists.
Lights to the Lamp: An Exhibition of Alchemy features teachers and instructors from Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The exhibition is curated by Baltimore artist and educator Ernest Shaw, a Motor House resident artist whose work consistently connects portraiture, Black identity, education and community.
The opening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Motor House, 120 West North Avenue. The exhibition is set to remain on view through October 21.
The premise is worth celebrating: the people helping young artists find their visual language also maintain practices, ideas and bodies of work of their own. Lights to the Lamp gives those roles equal space.
