Port Discovery Refreshes Charm Mart as Families Get New Weekend Options

Port Discovery has refreshed a familiar play space with a new name: Charm Mart. In an October 15th announcement, the Baltimore children’s museum said its former Royal Farms exhibit now carries the new identity while retaining the everyday make-believe activities families know.
The exhibit lets children stock shelves, gather pretend groceries, work a cash register and try different store roles. A big blue Jeep adds another stop, with opportunities to pretend to fill it with gas and air. The museum recommends the space for children ages two and older.
The learning idea is straightforward: familiar errands become a chance to practice communication and cooperation. A child can be the shopper on one turn and the cashier on the next, while caregivers join the conversation. The museum also suggests using the pretend foods to talk about food groups and everyday choices.
For returning visitors, the announcement describes a refreshed existing exhibit. Charm Mart is separate from the former Adventure Expeditions space, which the museum says closed in September and remains under construction. A replacement for that area has not yet been announced on the museum’s current notice.
This weekend brings two different ways to plan a visit. Port Discovery advertises $15 admission on Saturday, October 17th, with in-person redemption only. Saturday’s listed hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum warns families to account for Baltimore Running Festival traffic modifications when traveling downtown.
On Sunday, October 18th, a Sensory Friendly Sunday session runs from 9 to 11 a.m., ahead of regular public hours. The museum describes the program as a quieter setting before the general opening. Families should review the program’s ticket information separately; Saturday’s admission offer should not be assumed to apply on Sunday.
Port Discovery is at 35 Market Place. Check its current visitor information and ticket options before setting out, especially when choosing between a discounted Saturday visit and Sunday’s sensory-friendly period. The refreshed store gives families a reason to revisit a familiar corner of the museum without needing to build the day around a special performance.
