Netflix Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory now has a two-step release plan: the animated film will open in theaters worldwide on November 5, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on December 22.

Kit Connor voices Charlie Paley, a new young chocolatier at the center of the story, while Taika Waititi voices Willy Wonka. Netflix’s announcement places the film in Roald Dahl’s chocolate-factory world without presenting it as a direct recreation of an earlier live-action adaptation.

The newly announced voice cast includes Nicola Coughlan, Charithra Chandran, Samson Kayo, Christopher Chung, Kate Winslet and Helena Bonham Carter. That lineup gives the project a mix of comedy, drama and animation experience, but Netflix has not yet detailed every character assignment.

Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan are directing. Stern’s screen credits and Bogan’s animation background suggest a project built for broad family audiences, while the holiday-season streaming date gives Netflix a clear year-end launch window.

The theatrical run is the notable business choice. Netflix has used cinemas selectively for awards campaigns and event titles; a global opening nearly seven weeks before streaming gives Netflix Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory more room to operate like a conventional studio release.

No official trailer was available with the August 12 announcement, so the film’s visual style, songs and precise story structure remain open questions. First-look images establish the principal characters, but a trailer—not fan art or reconstructed footage—will be the proper evidence for a later visual and scene-level update.

Release dates, directors and cast are confirmed by Netflix’s official Tudum announcement; Deadline reported additional industry context.
