MORGANtheCEO’s TIDAL Spotlight Connects D.C. Roots With a Long Creative Journey

MORGANtheCEO is receiving fresh attention for work rooted in years of building an audience. In an October 9th TIDAL interview, the Washington, D.C.-based MC, songwriter and instrumentalist connects her current recognition to the small stages and musical habits that shaped her career.
The platform spotlighted “07 Focused,” which she identifies as the seventh track on her 2012 mixtape BSNWH. She recalls performing at showcases and open mics in D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia during that period. The renewed attention gives a regional underground recording another opportunity to find listeners.
Her account of writing begins with sound. A percussionist who also explores guitar and piano, she says an instrumental detail often supplies the starting point. Cadences develop from there, and handwritten notebooks remain part of her process. She names Scarface, JAY-Z, André 3000 and 2Pac among her rap influences.
She also describes Unfinished Energy as a personal project shaped by rebuilding after difficult experiences. Taken together, her answers place craft and persistence at the center of the conversation, rather than treating discovery as an overnight event.
TIDAL’s Spotlight guidance explains the mechanism behind that visibility. Original tracks made public through TIDAL Upload can be considered by its editorial team. Selection for a qualifying playlist or in-app feature can qualify an eligible track for a one-time $1,000 award; uploading alone does not guarantee selection.
The platform says there is no separate application, and editorial choices depend on quality and fit. Its guidance also distinguishes curated placements from algorithmic features such as My Mix, which do not qualify. A track appearing in several eligible placements still receives only one award. Artists should review the current program terms before participating.
For listeners following regional Hip-Hop, this is a chance to explore a musician’s development across time. The interview and linked recording offer a starting point; PowerPage’s Hip-Hop coverage follows the creative work and business decisions behind the music.
