Morgan State's Nonconference Schedule Sends the Bears to Maryland and Auburn

Morgan State men's basketball prepares for a 15-game nonconference schedule in 2026-27.

Morgan State's nonconference schedule gives the Bears a demanding mix of Baltimore home dates, regional rivals and two high-major road tests. The 15-game slate announced Thursday includes six games at Hill Field House and trips to Maryland and Auburn before MEAC play takes over.

The season opens November 2 against Cheyney in Baltimore. Morgan State will also welcome UMBC, Towson, North Carolina A&T, Cornell and George Mason, creating a home schedule with local familiarity and several opponents capable of exposing weaknesses before conference games begin.

The Maryland visit is the first headline road date. Morgan State's history in College Park includes a memorable 66-65 victory on January 7, 2008, a result that remains part of the program's modern identity. The 2026 meeting gives the Bears another chance to measure their size, pace and late-game execution against Big Ten competition.

Auburn presents an even larger challenge on December 29. Placing that game near the end of the nonconference calendar should reveal how much Morgan State has developed through November and December. It also gives the Bears experience in a difficult road environment just before the season's stakes tighten.

The schedule's local layer may matter most to supporters. Games against UMBC and Towson create natural Baltimore-area interest, while North Carolina A&T renews an HBCU matchup with its own cultural weight. Cornell and George Mason add different styles that can help the coaching staff test lineup combinations.

This is the basketball counterpart to Morgan State's football opener against North Carolina A&T: a schedule designed to make the program visible beyond conference play. Six home dates give Baltimore fans access, while Maryland and Auburn provide the national measuring sticks. The value will come from how the Bears use both.
