Karabo Mogane is describing his return to consistent music-making through the life he lived away from a steady release schedule. In an October 1st Sowetan interview, the South African singer connected changes in his writing to marriage, fatherhood, business, and returning to school. The focus is on the person and independent artist behind the music.

Mogane said his releases became less consistent between 2019 and 2025. He described a gradual approach to rebuilding momentum, with R&B and neo-soul at the center of his current direction. He also credited work with producer Tinashe Sibeko and discussed the African musical elements he wants listeners to hear.

His experience with independence predates this latest conversation. In an April 2021 TshisaLIVE interview, Mogane discussed preparing his first independently released body of work after beginning his recording career with label support. He described the practical challenge of asking questions, learning from mistakes, and maintaining relationships with people who had helped him earlier.

That earlier interview also placed South African and West African influences within the sound he wanted to explore. Seen alongside his current remarks, it provides a longer view of his creative direction. Independence is an ongoing part of his career, rather than a change introduced only this week.

For a current listening point, Apple Music lists “Only 4 U” under Karabo, dated September 30th, 2026, with a Mabotsha Solutions credit. The single runs 3:40. The player below lets readers hear the official preview and open the full track on Apple Music, connecting the career conversation to the recording itself.

Mogane first reached a wider audience in 2015, but these interviews move the conversation toward the decisions that follow an early breakthrough: how to work, whom to learn from, and what life experience brings to writing.
