Joyce Wrice Sets “Machiko” for October 9 as Her Second Album Takes Shape
Joyce Wrice has given her second album a name and a date. Machiko is set for October 9, with the singer’s official website now inviting listeners to save the project ahead of release. For fans who have been following this year’s singles, the announcement turns a string of individual records into a clearer picture of what comes next.
Apple Music’s prerelease listing shows 14 tracks, including “Fly (Someone You Love),” “Crack The Code” and “Break Me In.” The album remains a forthcoming release; the available songs offer a preview rather than the complete listening experience. Wrice’s artist page places it after her 2021 debut, Overgrown, with the Motive EP arriving in between in 2022.
The visual side of this chapter has already been taking shape. In a June interview with The FADER, Wrice explained that the “Crack The Code” video reunited her with director Yavez, who worked on her Overgrown videos. She wanted room for acting and a story built around the familiar experience of having a workplace crush.
That idea became an office-romance setup with surveillance-style imagery. Wrice described watching footage of herself and another person as part of the concept, while longtime collaborators Mariah Tlili and Kei Austin handled choreography. The video gives the rollout a character and setting of its own, connecting the song’s emotional questions to a playful visual narrative.
“Fly (Someone You Love)” is the latest release highlighted on Wrice’s Spotify artist page.
