Jamila Woods Marks 10 Years of “HEAVN” With a Theater Tour

Jamila Woods is returning to HEAVN for a limited tenth-anniversary theater tour, bringing her 2016 debut back to the stage with a decade of additional perspective. The run begins November 16 in Los Angeles and is scheduled to close December 6 at Thalia Hall in her hometown of Chicago.

Other announced stops include San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and New York. The theater-sized rooms fit the album’s intimate writing, allowing Woods to revisit songs rooted in personal memory, Black interior life and Chicago geography without turning the anniversary into an oversized nostalgia production.

HEAVN originally introduced a wider audience to Woods’ distinctive balance of soul music and poetry. The album explored self-love, community, police violence and Black womanhood while drawing strength from the city that shaped her, making its return especially meaningful in a hometown closing performance.

An anniversary tour can do more than reproduce an old track list. Woods now approaches the material after years of recording, collaboration and performance, creating room to change arrangements, emphasize different lyrics and connect the debut with the artistic choices that followed it.

The announced dates are also intentionally selective. A short run gives each show the feeling of a focused retrospective rather than a routine national cycle, and it leaves space for the production to be shaped around the album’s language, pacing and emotional range.

The remaining question is how closely the concerts will follow the original sequence and whether later material will enter the set. Whatever the final structure, the tour gives listeners a chance to hear HEAVN as living work—an album that can carry its original meaning while absorbing ten years of change.
