Jacob Elordi is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in Scapegoat, the next film from writer-director Ari Aster and A24.

The negotiations were reported Tuesday by entertainment trades, but the distinction matters: Elordi has not been announced as signed. Johansson is already attached to lead the film, while Aster wrote the screenplay and will direct. Lars Knudsen is producing through Square Peg, the company he shares with Aster.

Plot details remain under wraps. Several descriptions have circulated online, ranging from a story involving a doctor and an internet-famous patient to science fiction or relationship drama, but the production has not confirmed a logline. For Aster, Scapegoat continues a long relationship with A24 after Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau Is Afraid and Eddington. Each of those films arrived with a distinct identity, which helps explain why a project with no public plot can still generate industry interest from casting alone.
