Hunter Henry’s Reported $16 Million Extension Keeps a Trusted Target With Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have secured one of quarterback Drake Maye’s most dependable targets beyond the 2026 season.

New England announced an extension for veteran tight end Hunter Henry on Monday. The team did not disclose financial terms. ESPN reported that the two-year agreement is worth $16 million, can reach $20 million with incentives and includes a $4.2 million signing bonus and $14.5 million guaranteed.

That sourcing distinction matters: the extension is team-confirmed, while the dollar figures are reported terms.

Henry, 31, caught 60 passes for 768 yards and seven touchdowns across 17 starts last season. He added nine receptions for 112 yards and another score during New England’s run to Super Bowl LX.

His consistency is part of the value. Henry has recorded at least 40 catches in each of his five Patriots seasons, a streak exceeded among New England tight ends only by Ben Coates’ six-year run from 1993 through 1998.

Henry also pointed to his relationship with Maye when explaining why he wanted to stay. Continuity between a quarterback and a middle-of-the-field target can be especially valuable when an offense changes personnel elsewhere. Timing, option routes and third-down trust often take longer to build than a transaction headline suggests.

The contract is not one of the week’s record-setting NFL deals. It is instead a targeted investment in stability: a productive veteran, a defined role and an established connection with the franchise quarterback.

For the Patriots, that kind of certainty can matter as much as a splashier acquisition.
