Empire Towers Business Assistance Opens in Glen Burnie September 24
Empire Towers businesses have two new opportunities to seek help Thursday, September 24, as the Glen Burnie structural emergency continues. Anne Arundel County’s latest update lists a noon opening for an SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center, followed by an evening virtual session for people with insurance questions.
The outreach center is at the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management, 7480 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Glen Burnie. SBA representatives will answer eligibility questions and help with applications. The county’s September 23 update and the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation both list noon as the first-day public opening.
Regular center hours are 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, with Sundays closed. The newer local notices list a final closing of 5 p.m. October 8. An earlier state announcement carried different opening and closing details, so check the county’s current notice before traveling.
The assistance is through Economic Injury Disaster Loans for eligible small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and private nonprofit organizations affected by the emergency. AAEDC says physical property damage is not required. The loans can support ordinary operating costs such as payroll, utilities and accounts payable; they are repayable assistance, with eligibility determined through the application process.
Separately, the county lists a Maryland Insurance Administration Virtual Disaster Center from 6–8 p.m. September 24. It begins with a short presentation and continues with private breakout sessions. Registration is linked from the county’s Empire Towers information page.
These resources follow the July 9 evacuation of the office building at 7310 Ritchie Highway. The county continues to classify the structure as unsafe and directs the public to stay outside its 150-foot safety perimeter. AAEDC’s earlier $2,500 disaster-recovery grant program has closed. Businesses seeking the new loan assistance can use the MySBA Loan Portal or the outreach center. AAEDC also directs affected businesses seeking temporary operating space to info@aaedc.org.
