Danny Pinter’s Injury Reshapes the Ravens’ Starting-Center Competition

The Baltimore Ravens’ search for a starting center changed sharply when Danny Pinter went down during Thursday’s joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings. The Baltimore Ravens’ official report says Pinter is expected to miss an extended period, removing one of the leading candidates from a competition that had already become one of the most important decisions of training camp.

Head coach Jesse Minter did not announce a specific diagnosis. NFL Network reported that Pinter suffered a torn patellar tendon, but the team had not confirmed that detail in its update. The responsible takeaway is the one Baltimore has placed on the record: Pinter is seeking medical opinions and is not expected back soon.

That creates a larger opportunity for Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn. Both have received first-team work, and both now have fewer practice snaps to waste. Pocic brings extensive NFL starting experience. Gwyn offers continuity from within Baltimore’s system. The club must evaluate not only individual blocking but also the center’s communication, protection calls, exchanges, and chemistry with the guards and quarterback.

Corey Bullock also moves closer to the center of the evaluation. Baltimore’s report says he is expected to receive work in Saturday’s preseason game against Minnesota. Those snaps can help the coaching staff measure whether Bullock is strictly depth or a realistic part of the competition while Pinter is unavailable.

The injury also changes the risk calculation. A close battle can encourage patience, but reduced depth may push the Ravens to value reliability and availability sooner. The preseason game will not settle the position by itself, especially with different line combinations and game plans, but clean operation becomes more meaningful when the leading group has suddenly narrowed.

Fans preparing to follow Saturday’s evaluation can use PowerPage’s Ravens–Vikings viewing guide for television, streaming, and radio details. The center competition should now be one of the first units to watch, with every first-team rep carrying greater weight than it did before Thursday.
