The Buccaneers beat the Cowboys 24–16 on Thursday, October 8th, turning a strong rushing performance and three Dallas giveaways into their first victory of the season. Tampa Bay improved to 1–4, while the Cowboys dropped to 2–3 at AT&T Stadium.

According to the official game recap, Bucky Irving ran for 165 yards as Tampa Bay finished with 241 on the ground. The visitors controlled possession for 39:21, compared with Dallas’ 20:39, and finished ahead in total offense, 419 yards to 366.

Dallas led 10–7 at halftime before the game changed sharply in the third quarter. Irving’s 72-yard run helped set up an Emeka Egbuka rushing touchdown. An interception and a fumbled kickoff then contributed to a 17-point quarter that left Tampa Bay ahead 24–10.

Jalon Daniels, making his second career start, threw for 189 yards and a touchdown. Dak Prescott finished with 316 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. George Pickens supplied nine catches for 130 yards and Dallas’ fourth-quarter receiving score, but the comeback ended with another interception deep in Tampa Bay territory.

In his postgame assessment, coach Brian Schottenheimer said the loss required a broad evaluation. The Cowboys’ account of that discussion highlighted self-inflicted mistakes and the difficulty of containing Tampa Bay’s ground game. A strong opening touchdown drive did not translate into sustained control over the remaining possessions.

The decisive contrast was possession quality. Dallas produced passing yardage, but three turnovers and limited time with the ball reduced the value of that output. Tampa Bay could keep drives moving on the ground and avoid giving the Cowboys equivalent opportunities through takeaways.

The Cowboys’ next game is October 18th at Green Bay, according to the team’s follow-up report. Thursday’s result gives Dallas time to assess the mistakes, but no points back in the standings. PowerPage’s NFL coverage follows the developments beyond the final score.
