Browns Beat Steelers 27–24 on Andre Szmyt’s 56-Yard Winner

The Browns survived a late Steelers comeback with one decisive kick Thursday, October 1st. Andre Szmyt connected from 56 yards with 10 seconds remaining to give Cleveland a 27–24 victory, its third consecutive win and a 3–1 record after a tense AFC North finish.
The Browns official game recap details a fourth quarter that nearly slipped away. After Cleveland moved ahead 24–16, Aaron Rodgers found Pat Freiermuth for a three-yard touchdown with 1:42 left. Rodgers then ran in the two-point conversion, tying the game and handing Deshaun Watson one final possession to answer.
Watson guided a seven-play drive that gained 36 net yards and put Szmyt within range. The kicker delivered, and Grant Delpit intercepted Pittsburgh’s final desperation pass to close the game. Cleveland’s lead had survived only after an immediate response to the Steelers’ late surge.
Earlier, the Browns built a 21–10 halftime advantage with three second-quarter touchdowns. Jaleel McLaughlin scored on a 28-yard run, Quinshon Judkins added a two-yard rushing score, and Harold Fannin Jr. caught a two-yard touchdown pass. That burst supplied the cushion Pittsburgh spent the second half trying to erase.
The Browns statistical breakdown shows contributions beyond the closing kick. Watson passed for 268 yards, while the defense produced five sacks and two interceptions. Denzel Boston caught four passes for 89 yards, including a 60-yard gain. Judkins combined 53 rushing yards with 43 receiving yards to finish with 96 yards from scrimmage.
In its Browns players of the game report, Cleveland highlighted Szmyt’s career-long winner and his run of 22 consecutive made field goals. The team also credited Denzel Ward’s interception with changing the first-half momentum after two opening possessions had ended in punts. Those plays explain how Cleveland created enough opportunities to survive a difficult finish.
