Broncos Beat Seahawks 17–14 in Overtime as McMillian’s Pick Sets Up Lutz

Denver needed one more defensive play after Seattle erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit. Ja’Quan McMillian supplied it in overtime, intercepting Sam Darnold to set up Wil Lutz’s 53-yard field goal and a 17–14 Broncos victory Thursday, October 15th.
The Broncos improved to 4–2 and stayed unbeaten at home, winning there for the third time this season. Their official game recap describes an evening that began with productive touchdown drives and ended with the defense protecting a scoreless second-half offense.
An early lead becomes a late escape
Denver built a 14–3 halftime advantage on consecutive touchdown possessions lasting 16 and nine plays. J.K. Dobbins reached the end zone for the second straight week, while RJ Harvey scored his first touchdown of the season.
Seattle fought back, and a late field goal eventually forced overtime. The Seahawks received the ball first in the extra period, but McMillian intercepted Darnold on third-and-7. Denver needed four plays after the takeaway before Lutz delivered the winning kick.
Pressure changes the game
The team’s defensive breakdown credits the Broncos with five sacks, 17 quarterback hits and three takeaways. Four sacks came on third down, repeatedly disrupting Seattle’s chances to extend possessions. Seven defenders contributed at least half a sack.
Before halftime, Nik Bonitto forced a fumble that Justin Strnad recovered, ending a Seattle possession in Denver territory. Late in regulation, Kris Abrams-Draine intercepted Darnold after the Seahawks had advanced into another threatening position. Seattle still found a tying possession, making McMillian’s subsequent takeaway decisive.
Jonah Elliss also made a consequential third-down sack. The five-yard loss lengthened a Jason Myers field-goal attempt that missed, helping Denver protect its advantage earlier in the second half.
The result beyond the finish
Denver’s defense has now produced 10 turnovers and 18 sacks through six games. Thursday showed how those plays can preserve a victory even when the offense stops scoring. Seattle’s comeback kept the outcome unsettled until overtime, but the Broncos secured the final possession that mattered.
