BigXthaPlug was arrested in Texas on Friday, August 21, and booked into the Collin County Jail after an encounter with the Allen Police Department. The Dallas rapper, whose legal name is Xavier Darnell Landum, is facing allegations involving driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, citing court records, reported that the marijuana allegation involves less than two ounces. The outlet described the DWI and marijuana possession counts as Class B misdemeanors and the firearm count as a Class A misdemeanor. The charges are allegations, and the available records do not establish a conviction or explain the circumstances that led to the arrest.
Allen police spokesperson Sam Rippamonti confirmed the arrest to CBS Texas but said the department could not provide additional details. CBS reported that the investigation remained active. That limited disclosure matters: it leaves unanswered questions about the traffic encounter, the basis for each charge, and how prosecutors may ultimately proceed.
The timing also affected BigXthaPlug’s public schedule. FOX 4 reported that he missed a planned Friday performance at the Country Rising Festival, where organizers referred to a personal emergency. The festival statement did not publicly connect that absence to the arrest, so the two developments should not be treated as formally linked without further confirmation.
The latest case follows prior North Texas arrests. FOX 4 reported that Landum was arrested on marijuana and firearm allegations on August 21, 2025, exactly one year before the current arrest. The station also noted a February 2025 marijuana case in Arlington that was later dismissed. Those earlier matters do not determine the outcome of the new charges.
BigXthaPlug built his national profile through records including “Texas” and “Mmhmm,” then widened his audience with the 2025 album “I Hope You’re Happy.” The legal development now interrupts a period of growing crossover visibility.
