The Chicago Bears held off the New England Patriots 30–24 at Soldier Field on Thursday, October 22nd, turning a handful of decisive plays into a Week 7 win. New England generated long touchdowns and kept the game competitive, but could not overcome its mistakes and missed opportunities.

The Patriots’ game analysis highlighted a second-quarter red-zone interception by Drake Maye that preceded an 80-yard Chicago touchdown drive. That sequence changed the value of a promising New England possession and helped the Bears build a 20–7 advantage before halftime.

Stevenson keeps New England within reach

Maye found Rhamondre Stevenson for a 48-yard touchdown at the end of the first half, cutting Chicago’s lead to 20–14. Stevenson finished with seven catches for a career-high 93 receiving yards, according to the Patriots’ official game notes. His previous best was 88 yards.

The touchdown was also the longest scoring reception of Stevenson’s career. New England struck again through the air in the third quarter, when Maye connected with tight end Eli Raridon on a 30-yard touchdown pass. The big plays gave the Patriots a route back into the contest even as their defense struggled to finish stops.

Chicago makes the late plays

Caleb Williams supplied a critical answer in the fourth quarter, escaping pressure on third-and-11 and finding Rome Odunze for a first down. Chicago also received a late 58-yard field goal from Cairo Santos after he had missed an earlier attempt from 53 yards.

Those moments mattered because New England remained within striking distance. The Bears ran 66 offensive plays to the Patriots’ 50, and the visiting defense repeatedly allowed extra yardage after initial contact. A 58-yard completion to Luther Burden was another example of Chicago creating a damaging gain.

The numbers behind the finish

The team’s written game notes and analysis both list Maye at 24 completions on 31 attempts for 321 passing yards. His two long touchdown throws were part of an offensive effort that produced enough explosive plays to threaten Chicago, but the red-zone turnover proved costly.

For New England, linebacker Christian Elliss matched his career high with 13 tackles, while Marcus Jones recorded his first sack of the season. Individual contributions kept the Patriots involved; Chicago’s ability to sustain possessions and convert important late opportunities decided the result.
