Baltimore MET Gala Honors Diana Ross With Mahogany Theme

Baltimore MET Gala Honors Diana Ross With Mahogany Theme
The Baltimore MET Gala’s Mahogany theme pays tribute to Diana Ross and the 1975 fashion drama.

The Baltimore MET Gala returns Saturday, August 29, with a theme made for a city that understands how style can carry a story. “Mahogany — A Tribute to Diana Ross” will bring fashion, art, music and community together at The Hall at LIVE! Casino & Hotel Maryland from 5 to 10 p.m.

Now in its fifth year, the event is drawing inspiration from Mahogany, the 1975 drama starring Ross as an aspiring designer whose rise through the fashion world comes with ambition, glamour and difficult choices. That reference gives participating designers and guests a wide visual language to explore, from high-fashion drama to the expressive confidence Ross has embodied across music and film.

The Baltimore MET Gala Mahogany concept also gives local creatives a public stage. The event’s organizers frame the evening as a meeting point for designers, models, artists, musicians and culinary talent, turning the red carpet into more than a celebrity imitation. The strongest looks can reflect Baltimore’s own imagination instead of borrowing another city’s identity.

The Hall at LIVE! is built for that scale, with a large performance and event footprint inside the Anne Arundel County entertainment complex. Ticket options listed by the event include general-admission and premium experiences, giving attendees different levels of access to the evening’s presentations and hospitality.

A Diana Ross tribute is especially fitting for a production centered on creative possibility. Her career has moved across music, fashion, film and performance without treating those worlds as separate lanes. For Baltimore’s designers and culture workers, the theme offers a chance to honor that legacy while showing what the region is building now.

The event arrives during a packed stretch for Black culture in the region. Readers planning the week can also revisit our guide to the Ubiquitous Women’s Expo, another major gathering connecting entertainment, wellness and entrepreneurship.
